Ndigbos Get Lagos State Apology over Destitute Deportation

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola had apologized to the Igbos yesterday Thursday Sept. 26th 2013 over the deportation of destitute from the state to Anambra State a few months back.

Governor Fashola did this at a ceremony to mark the Silver Jubilee anniversary of Aka Ikenga, an Igbo social-cultural group in Lagos. He said:

In his word he said that he doesn’t have problem with the Igbos, they know that because the largest herd of cattle he received during his father’s burial came from the Ndigbo. Those people who came under their many colours are not people I have a problem with, they are my kindred and my people. Also, there were people who did not clearly understand me and they have misunderstood words said or misrepresented actions taken in the way that it has pleased them to do so. To those people, I owe an explanation, not a defence of what has happened and that is partly why I am here.

“We have built a relationship based on tolerance, mutual respect, trust and love. That relationship was started by our ancestors, it was handed over to us and we have nourished it with a lot of trust, with a lot of understanding and with a lot of fidelity.

“Those who misunderstand that relationship, think that there is no value in that relationship, I have come here to correct that because I place a lot of value on that relationship. If those people have misunderstood me or they have misunderstood actions taken by our government, here, now and today, I offer an unqualified and unreserved apology."

“Why should people feel compelled to migrate from one place to the other? Is there one part of this country that is less endowed whether in human or natural resource? Is that the problem? Is it the case that perhaps some parts are so endowed or not adequately managed?"

“Those are the honest debates that we must have. The political storm is gathering and allusions have been made to the issues I address, not only by the chairman, but by the President of Ohaneze Ndigbo. How can development be so difficult in the part of Nigeria that gave us Ike Nwachukwu, Chinua Achebe, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Odumegwu Ojukwu, Alex Ekwueme and so on, how can development be so difficult in that part of this country? I think those are the real issues.”

“I think we have been in the news of our relationship for the wrong reasons in the last few weeks, but if you listen to the voices of those who speak the loudest, you would see that they do not speak about us, they do not speak about the problems, but about themselves. The majority of us are concerned about how to make it better, that is what concerns us always in Lagos, and it is not an easy decision for me.”

Offa LG rerun – Should we cheer our SIECs or weep for democracy

From the days of former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) (either old or new, PDP is PDP), has always been a dirty and unintelligent rigger of elections, perhaps its Federal might can be deduced as one of the reasons for its lackadaisical way of doing things. They don’t seem to care about what people say about what they do and that is why they’ll never ‘give a damn’ about whatever you say about them.

Unlike the defunct ACN which is ‘good’ at its game, it plays it perfectly and smoothly and it enjoys media buzz as well as public sympathy; reason why it easily gets away with many of its excesses.

Credible polls are scarce in this part of the world, until last year when we had credible Governorship ones in Ondo and Edo states, where President Goodluck Jonathan proved many of us wrong that it is possible for the candidate of the ruling party to lose woefully in an election despite all the Federal power behind such candidate, it wasn’t like this in the days of President Olusegun Obasanjo. At least GEJ is better than OBJ in the area of free and fair poll, and I commend him for that.

On Offa poll; it’s no longer news that the August 31st Offa Local Government rerun poll where all PDP candidates in the election were declared winners by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC), has been widely condemned as a ‘broad day light’ robbery by APC among others. The opposition claimed it won the chairmanship post and 11 out of 12 councillorship posts. I laughed when I saw in the news that the result declared was not the ‘authentic result’ of the election, na today we don dey hear fake results?

I saw the whole protest and the brouhaha about the election as supreme disingenuousness on the part of the opposition party, majority of who are defunct ACN members, when they also did the same thing in Lagos about two years ago.

Buhari and Tinubu At Manchester Event

Tinubu has been out of Nigeria since early July to attend to a nagging knee injury sustained decades ago as a school boy.

He had surgery in Chicago, United States in August and has been recuperating in the UK since then.

On Saturday, Tinubu and Buhari jointly attended the inauguration of the Democratic Progessive Movement. The event held at the Methodist Central Building in Manchester City.

Yabatech gates shut by Students due to Protest against cult activities.

Yaba College of Technology, Lagos has been shut by students of the institution as part of a student’s protest against increasing cult activities in the college.

Policemen who were also sent over to the school to mediate were peacefully sent away by the protesting students. No students were allowed in or out of the school premises during the protest which several eye-witnesses said was a reaction to a violent clash the night before between some students and some suspected cult members.

The riot started last night when a sports member of the Karate group was beaten by some alleged members of a cult.

In the morning, most of the sports members and many students mobilized and declared war on the cultists.

At the time of filing this report, the students had gathered on the campus waiting to be addressed by the head of the Students Affairs department.

Christian Youths Vow To Retaliate Mallam Nasir El-Rufai Anti-Christ Comments

The Christian Youth Vanguard, a coalition of various Christian youth organisations, on Wednesday in Abuja threatened to “reciprocate in equal measure” the anti-Christ comments by a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.

The youths said they would beam their searchlight on Prophet Mohammed and the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar 111.

The threat is coming on the heels of comments against Jesus Christ and a recent outburst by el-Rufai that the Christian Association of Nigeria and its President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, have become appendages of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The CYV in a statement by its National Coordinator, Yakubu Mecham; and Secretary, Emeka Okoli said from el-Rufai’s uncomplimentary remarks against CAN , Oritsejafor and the Christian faith in Nigeria,  someone needed “to help the ex-minister before he goes completely mental.”

The NYV recalled how el-Rufai recently “made blasphemous and abominable tweets about our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” but that the incident was swept under the carpet for peace sake.

The group wondered what would have been the consequence if such a blasphemous remark was made about Prophet Mohammed.

It warned, “Enough of this insults on our Christian faith and our CAN President. The CYV hereby notify el-Rufai and his group of unpatriotic Nigerians that we will not sit back and tolerate insults aimed at our Christian leader any longer.

“We wish to stress very emphatically that henceforth any further careless statements, comments or insults on our Faith or on the person of our CAN President will be reciprocated in equal measure. A word, they say, is enough for the wise.”
