A 22-year-old man, Imoleayo Adekoya, was arrested by the police  for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in a bush in Sagamu, Ogun State.
The police said the suspect was arrested a day after he committed the offence.
The Police Public Relations officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement that the victim was sent on errand to a nearby market when Adekoya allegedly raped her.
Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, added that the suspect allegedly first lured his victim into the bush before committing the offence.
He further said that when the victim did not return home on time, a search party was constituted to look for her.
The police spokesman said, “The helpless girl was seen with blood all over her when a search party came across her at late hours of Saturday.
“The suspect has been arrested and confessed to the crime. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran Abeokuta, for a thorough investigation. The suspect will appear in court soon.
“The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, Ikemefuna Okoye, has assured the parents of the victim and the people of Ogun State of justice in the matter. He warns those who are fond of raping women, particularly minors, to stop as the command will no longer tolerate such obnoxious act.”
